Dean's Welcome

We have officially launched The Power of Penn Engineering: Inventing the Future, an ambitious fundraising campaign to supercharge our collective resources and raise $170 million by June 2021.

The Power of Penn Engineering: Inventing the Future will energize our intellectually vibrant community, amplify the School’s global impact, and accelerate the development of bold, innovative solutions to the greatest challenges of our time.

Aligned with the vision and values of the University’s overarching campaign, The Power of Penn: Advancing Knowledge for Good, our strategic campaign priorities include:

  • Expanding our superstar faculty, who enable the School’s vision and nurture creativity. Under the demands of rising enrollment, we will continue to innovate in pedagogy and to pursue novel learning strategies for students. To do this, we will increase the number of tenure-track faculty from 113 to 150 and add 20 new endowed positions by 2020.
  • Adding revolutionary new spaces, including laboratories, active learning classrooms, and collaborative spaces, that encourage and inspire cross-disciplinary teaching and research in new and exciting avenues of inquiry.
  • Investing in the inventors and entrepreneurs of tomorrow: our students. We will increase access to our exclusive Ivy League education to all talented and qualified students — fostering diversity through generous financial aid and creating new and exciting opportunities to connect our students to Philadelphia’s burgeoning tech ecosystem.

By galvanizing our community’s enterprising spirit, together, we have the power to invent a future we all can share: the power to extract insight and develop predictive models from large data sets, to personalize and revolutionize how we deliver great healthcare, to develop energy that is efficient and renewable, and to modernize our nation’s infrastructure for the twenty-first century.

As we approach 170 years of excellence in teaching and research, I invite you to help us “invent the future” of Penn Engineering — and of our world.
